Description Teaching Objective:
1. To enable the students to build up an independent, deeper and critical perspective regarding historical events
2. To read and analyze historical documents and secondary literature; to formulate questions for future historical research

Teaching Content:
1. The Three Pillars of the Chinese Catholic Church(楊廷筠、李之藻、徐光啟)and other individual Chinese Christians
2. Different Missionary Methods of Evangelization (Jesuit, Franciscan, Dominican, and others) and their implications regarding Chinese Culture
3. The Chinese Rites Controversy, the Chinese Liturgy, and the importance of Ritual in Chinese Society.
4. The State-Church relationship from the Letter of the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI to the Bishops, Priests, Consecrated Persons and Lay Faithful of the Catholic Church in the PRC.
