Description | Teaching Objective: Students will learn to reflect on the new directions in mission theology and the new paradigms that are suitable for fulfilling their mission, on one hand by considering the situation of the universal Church and the Church in Greater China today, and on the other hand by reviewing the paradigms of mission in the Bible and in history. Teaching Content: 1. Paradigms of Mission in the Bible and in History 1.1 Goodness paradigm: Old and New Testaments 1.2 Truth paradigm: From patristic Hellenization and Latinization to today’s new evangelization 2. Paradigm Shift in Mission Theology 2.1 Transition from truth paradigm to beauty paradigm: Matteo Ricci’s model and the approach of the Second Vatican Council 2.2 Beauty paradigm: The new mission theology of Pope Francis and Christoph Theobald 3. Mission Theology and Missionary Practices Today 3.1 Why mission? Christ as the starting point (Trinitarian theology, Christology and soteriology) 3.2 What is mission? The “Others” as the starting point (theological anthropology, political theology, theology of religions and ecological theology) 3.3. How to fulfill our mission? The Church as the starting point (synodal ecclesiology) 4. Paradigm of Mission in Chinese Culture and Society: A “Waterlike” “Going Forth” Model?
