Description Teaching Objective:
1. Deepening the introductory themes of the nature, structure, and task of theology, developing the capacity for assimilative study and creative research, and learning to write a basic scientific Paper by learning Gregorian typographic norms.
2. To help students grasp the process and method of studying theology by studying the process of theological development.
3. To help students develop the capacity and the attitude of critical thinking, which is the subjective conditions of the possibility for studying theology.
4. Bernard Lonergan’s method in theology will equip students with a solid methodological foundation for further theological studies, as they will be able to understand the dynamic of doing theology through the recurrent and related operation of the eight functional specialties.
5. By grasping the dynamic of Lonergan’s method, students will be able to develop their theological horizon on the macro level within the Catholic tradition and to engage themselves in independent theological enquiries.

Teaching Content:
Introduction to a scientific and systematic study and research of “What is Theology”
Part I: A panoramic view of the foundations and main contents of Theology. An introduction to theological research and theological sources. Students learn how to write a theological paper.
Part II: Three pillars of theology – Sacred Scripture, Apostolic Traditions, and Magisterium. Presentation and analysis of different branches of Theology – Dogmatic, Fundamental, Biblical, Moral, Patristic, and Theology of Creation.
Part III: Study Bernard Lonergan’s cognitional theory and conversion theory, and his method in theology grounded on these two foundations.
