| Description | Teaching Objective The objectives of this course are to enable students to understand the significant role of philosophical ethics within the broader framework of Christian theology; to develop the capacity to evaluate major ethical issues and to recognize their impact and consequences across various spheres of life; and to cultivate a critical perspective for addressing both historical and contemporary ethical problems and controversies. Students will be guided to analyze and assess these issues through the rich resources and traditions of the Christian faith. Teaching Content: The course covers: the origins and concerns of ethics; the meaning of practical philosophy and its relationship to the humanities; major ethical paradigms in the history of philosophy; fundamental characteristics of ethical experience within the Christian tradition, including ultimate human destiny, happiness, the good, desire, natural law, conscience, freedom, sin, and evil; the human person as the foundation of ethical value; the ethical significance of normative ethical models; the structure of moral conscience; human action and the sources of its moral character; natural moral law and its relationship to positive law; the ontological constitution of moral virtues; the four cardinal virtues and other fundamental virtues; postmodern challenges and contributions to traditional ethical norms; Chinese traditional ethical perspectives; and the fundamental similarities and differences between Chinese and Western ethical thought. The course also introduces some of the most urgent and challenging contemporary ethical issues, including bioethics, ecological ethics, and especially AI ethics, which has become a source of profound concern for humanity today.
