Description | Teaching Objective: This course aims to familiarize the students with the comprehensive development of ancient Greek philosophy, especially the philosophical minds such as Plato and Aristotle. It also suggests the students to analyze and understand specific philosophical problems by the philosophical categories and methods in this era. Teaching Content: Following the historical development of Greek philosophy, the course will introduce 1. Pre-Socratic philosophy: early natural philosophy and sophists, etc. 2. Socratic philosophy: Socrates, Plato and Aristotle 3. Post-Socratic philosophy (Hellenistic and Roman philosophy): Stoicism, Epicureanism, Pyrrhonism, Judeo-Greek philosophy, Plotinus’ Neo-Platonic philosophy, etc. Teaching Mode: Lecture, Presentation and Group Discussion Assessment Mode: Coursework and Presentation |
