| Description | 1. The Licentiate thesis (30 ECTS) is one of the main tests of the Second Cycle. It must demonstrate the student's ability to address a theological theme with correct method, good knowledge of literature, appropriate critical reading exercises and adequate and coherent expression skills. The Licentiate thesis is the decisive element in evaluating the student's aptitude for scientific research. 2. The Licentiate Thesis is developed under the guidance of a professor chosen from among the Permanent and Non-permanent professors of the Institute. 3. Students are required to write a thesis, according to the style set by the Institute, of about 100,000 to 180,000 characters in English (which is about 50 to 100 pages) or 40,000 to 80,000 characters in Chinese, not including bibliography. Students are to write their theses in English. But in exceptional cases, students may be given permission to write in Chinese if the topic involves a lot of source materials in Chinese. If students are writing their theses in Chinese, they must also write a synopsis of their theses in English in about one-third of the length of the original theses. |
