| Description | Teaching Objective: This course introduces spirituality in the twenty-first century. Christian spirituality can be defined as the entire process of finding a life unique to an individual Christian (and community). It encompasses the process of discovering one’s unique voice, understanding faith experience through one's own language and perspective, and deepening it. The goals of this course are to help students understand their own lived experience of faith. Studying and sharing wisdom together in a community of faith will help students grow in their spiritual lives. Moreover, by practicing in class, this class will train students to be lay leaders who help others in the church grow spiritually. Teaching Content: While the object of Christian spirituality is the lived experience of faith, it also employs a hermeneutical approach, using an interpretive process to make that experience intelligible and transformative in the present situation. Furthermore, it utilizes interdisciplinary approaches—incorporating theology, biblical studies, anthropology, psychology, psychoanalysis, sociology, and history—to explore the multi-faceted nature of the Christian experience. 1. What is Christian spirituality? 2. Human development; what is human in Christian spirituality? 3. Methodology of Christian Spirituality: hermeneutics; biblical spirituality 4.
