Description | Teaching Objective: The students will learn to reflect on new directions in mission theology and new paradigms that are suitable for fulfilling mission in their context, on the one hand by considering today’s situation of the universal Church and of the Church in Greater China and, on the other hand, by reviewing the missionary paradigms in the Bible and history. Teaching Content: 1. Missionary paradigms in the Bible and history 1.1 Paradigms of Goodness: Old and New Testament 1.2 Paradigms of Truth: From Patristic Hellenization to Today’s New Evangelization 2. Missionary paradigms’ shift 2.1 Transition from Truth paradigm to Beauty paradigm: Matteo Ricci’s model and the Approach of the Second Vatican Council 2.2 The Paradigm of Beauty: The New Theology of Mission of Pope Francis and Christoph Theobald 3. Today’s Theology of Mission and Missionary Practices 3.1 Why mission? From Christ’s Perspective (Trinitarian theology, Christology and soteriology) 3.2 What is mission? From Other’s Perspective (Theological Anthropology, Political Theology, Theology of Religions and Ecological Theology) 3.3. How to fulfill mission? From Church’s Perspective (synodal Ecclesiology) 4. The Paradigm of Mission in Chinese Culture and Society: A “Waterlike” “Outgoing” Model? Teaching Mode: Lecture, Personal Reading and Discussion Assessment Mode: Team missionary project writing |
