Description Guidelines for Monographic Readings:
1. Each semester, the student reads one philosophical text, assisted by a lecturer.
2. The student meets with the lecturer once a week for a period of at least ten weeks. Each meeting with the lecturer lasts approximately 20 minutes.
3. Normally, a lecturer meets with students every week.
4. The lecturer contacts the student to set the most convenient time, which should preferably remain the same every week throughout the semester.
5. During the meeting, the student gives a report on the part of the work read during the previous week, highlighting the most interesting or relevant topics found in the text. The reading must be divided so that the entire work is completed by the end of the semester.
6. At the end of each semester, the lecturer provides the Director with an evaluation of the student’s activity using the following grades: excellent, very good, good, satisfactory, weak, unsatisfactory. The course evaluation reflects
a) the student’s regular attendance;
b) the level of commitment to the reading;
c) the level of understanding of the work’s content;
d) the student’s ability to identify connections between the work’s content and other philosophical topics covered in other courses or seminars.
The lecturer takes notes on these aspects during each meeting with the student.
7. By the end of the 2nd semester (the last day of classes), the student must submit a report to the General Office.
8. The final grade for the two monographic readings will be determined by the Director, taking into account the lecturers’ evaluations and the final report.

Guidelines for the Report:
1. The report, covering both texts read in the two semesters, shall have the following structure for each monograph:
a) Main ideas of the work
b) Student’s personal critical evaluation
c) Contemporary relevance of the work
2. The report shall be approximately 10 pages (4000 words in English or 6000 words in Chinese) in the standard format of the HSIP. No bibliography is required. The report may be written in English or Chinese.
3. The student shall submit the report to the General Office by the last day of classes of the 2nd semester.
