Description | Teaching Objective: This course aims to help students understand and critically evaluate the most important councils of the Church, and to appreciate how the decrees of these councils form the vital core of the tradition of the Church. Teaching Content: Students will examine the principal documents of the twenty-one ecumenical councils of the Catholic Church, study the historical contexts from which these councils arose, and assess the doctrinal as well as ecclesiastical implications of these councils of the early, medieval and modern Church.
