| Description | Synodality: Theological Foundations and Practical Pathways for implementation TTeaching Objective: This course aims to provide students with a systematic understanding of synodality. It will help students clarify the major theological themes and principles of synodality, explore its concrete applications in the life of the Church after Vatican II, and encourage critical reflection on contemporary ecclesial practices. Through interactive teaching and active participation, the course seeks to foster engagement, enhance analytical skills, and promote deeper integration and reflection on theological concepts within the context of the Church's synodal mission. Teaching Content: This seminar will explore the historical and theological foundations of synodal ecclesiology, from the early Church to Vatican II. It will focus on core theme—"For a synodal Church: communion, participation and mission"—through key Vatican II documents (e.g., Lumen Gentium, Gaudium et Spes), contemporary papal teachings (especially Pope Francis's vision of synodality), and the 2021–2024 Synod of Bishops on "Synodality," including its main documents, working documents, and final outcomes. The course will also examine the methodology of this global synodal process, highlighting the role of the People of God in consultation and communal discernment. Through case studies from different continents, it will demonstrate how synodal processes enable the People of God to journey together across diverse social, economic, cultural, and political contexts. Through lectures, discussions, and group activities, students will integrate these theological and practical concepts and critically reflect on their relevance to contemporary Church challenges. The seminar aims to equip students to apply synodal principles effectively in actual ecclesial settings.
