| Description | Teaching Objective: This course introduces the history, development, schools of thought, and major ideas of Western philosophy from the Renaissance to the twentieth century. It will also explore how natural science and technological advancements changed methodologies, the impact of scepticism, and the differences between medieval and modern European philosophical thought. Teaching Content: 1. Major philosophers and their ideas (e.g., Descartes, Kant, and Hegel) 2. Major philosophical schools of thought (e.g., Rationalism and Empiricism) 3. The differences between medieval and modern European philosophical thought Topics will include secular humanism, the rise of modern science, empiricism, rationalism, idealism, pragmatism, and existentialism.
