| Description | Teaching Objective: First, this course intensively studies the text of Aristotle, and, if appropriate, adds Aquinas’s and other philosophers’ comments on the text. This enriches the understanding of both the text itself and how its interpretations affect Christological traditions or other metaphysical understandings. Second, the course itself is a training in mastering the skills for studying philosophy: the abilities of reading and analysing philosophical texts, and of presenting and discussing philosophical issues. Teaching Content: Including, but not exhaustively, Aristotle’s critique of pre-Socratic and Platonic doctrines; the relationship between the science of being as being and logic; the meanings of being, essence, substance, and categories; potency and act; metaphysics as theology.
