Description | Teaching Objective: Part I: To introduce the students to a general knowledge of the contents, exegesis and theology of the Gospel of John. Part II: To introduce the students to a general knowledge of the contents, exegesis and theology of the Epistles of St John and the Apocalypse. Teaching Content: Part I: The material is subdivided into four sections: 1. Introduction to the Gospel of John: Provenance (Author and Date), 2. Composition (Structure, Literary Techniques), 3. The Prologue (1:1-18) as instrument for reading the whole Gospel, 4. Exegesis and Theology (Tradition and innovation, Word, Light, Life, Mission), The Meaning of Cana, The question of a special Johannine theological vocabulary. Part II: The material is subdivided into seven sections: 1. Introduction to the First Letter of St John: Provenance (Author, Date and Relationship with the Gospel according to St John), 2. Composition (Structure, Literary Techniques), 3. Exegesis and Theology, 4. Introduction to the Second and Third Letters of St John, 5. Introduction to the Apocalypse: Provenance (Author, Date and Relationship with the Gospel according to St John), 6. Composition (Structure, Literary Techniques, Imagination, Imaging and Imagery), 7.
