Description Teaching Objective:
The course gives an overview of the current issues that pose challenges to society at large and the Church in particular.
Teaching Content:
Challenges of the past: A look at the origin, history and secularization of bioethics.
Present challenges: secularism, pluralism, human dignity and religious input to bioethics. Specific debates: embryo adoption, morning after pill, use of condoms in AIDS.
Future challenges: Technological imperative, eugenics and enhancement, genetic engineering, nanotechnology, stem cells, cloning and hybrids, neuroethics and artificial intelligence.
