| Description | Teaching Objective: This course motivates students to adopt a multi-disciplinary and critical approach in media studies, both in theory and in practice. The focus of the course is set on films on Jesus, i.e. the so-called Jesus-film. Participants will be guided to study the history and the rationales of the Jesus-film, together with its counterpart, i.e. the Christ-films To wind up the course, participants are led to work on a project of her/his own on a Christ-film. Teaching Content: Lectures An imaging of Jesus: a realist or a creative depiction? The cinematic depiction of Jesus in silence and shade The cinematic depiction of Jesus in bit parts The cinematic depiction of His humanity The Jesus musicals The cinematic depiction beyond the Bible A few modern Jesus films Seminars From Jesus to Christ: A study on <Jesus of Montreal> Each participant will prepare a presentation on a Christ-film. She/He will prepare a written report as part of the requirement to the course.
