General Information
Course Type On Campus
Course Category R08 Pastoral Studies
Description Teaching Objective:
Post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation Christifideles Laici states, “All of us, pastors and lay faithful, have the duty to promote and nourish stronger bonds and mutual esteem, cordiality and collaboration among the various forms of lay associations. Only in this way can the richness of the gifts and charisms that the Lord offers us bear their fruitful contribution in building the common house.” On this foundation, this course needs to identify the evangelical missions of lay faithful and religious people and how they live out the universal ministry in their roles of “collaboration” in cooperation with the ordained ministry of the pastors, participating in building up and serving the Church. We also need to recognize the different members of the Church, who have their own roles with varied charisma in sharing various ministries. They have to work together, hand in hand, towards a thriving and robust Church to pursue an ecclesial, pastoral and missionary conversion. Drawing on Church documents, resources of contemporary theology and social science, this course will explore the nature of the “collaborative ministry” of the Church and also introduce methods and techniques for exercising these shared ministries.

Teaching Content:
1. Understanding the concept and meaning of laity “collaboration”, its challenges and tensions in terms of Catholic Church documents.
