| Description | Teaching Objective This course will introduce the fundamental categories of meta-ethics in the philosophical perspective and the major approaches of normative ethics. It will approach the respective categories with the viewpoints of the representative philosophers and try to understand the current ethical issues of applied ethics with insight by those categories. Teaching Content: This course will introduce the fundamental categories of Western meta-ethics including ethic/morality, goodness, evil, happiness/pleasure, duty, utility, virtue, will (free will and akrasia), conscience/synderesis, love/desire, natural law, etc., along with three major approaches of normative ethics (deontological ethics, consequentialist ethics, virtue ethics) by the standpoints or theories of some representative philosophers.
